Vineyard Oh Vineyard

Sung by: Chanale Fellig,
Album: Chanale and Friends

A sly little fox,
Came across
A lovely green vineyard
A thick and tall fence
Blocked his way
On each the four sides

He walked all around
Till he found
A space for his head,
And squeezed it inside
He tried to get through
To where the grapes grew
But couldn’t reach
Hard as he tried

Vineyard oh vineyard
How lovely you look
How lovely your fruits and your vines
From each of your branches I’m longing to eat
Soon all your grapes will be mine

Our sly little friend
Came to spend
The time he had wisely
I’ve got an idea
That will work
He thought with a grin

Instead of defeat
I won’t eat
And then in three days,
I’ll be narrow and thin
I’ll be just the right size
To get to my prize
To slip through the hole
And get in

Vineyard oh vineyard
How lovely you look
How lovely your fruits and your vines
From each of your branches I’m coming to eat
I’m hoping I’ll have enough time

He started to eat
Oh how sweet
To be in this vineyard
How splendid the taste
Of these grapes
Oh, what a great feast

But while the fox ate
He gained weight
And when he had more
Then he’d like to admit
He found just like that
He’d grown much too fat
And to get out
He couldn’t fit

Vineyard oh vineyard
How lovely you look
How lovely your fruits and your vines
From each of your branches I came here to eat
But I’ve eaten too much this time

Vineyard oh vineyard
How lovely you looked
But I was so blind and naïve
I wasted my time here; it’s not worth a thing
Like I came in, that’s how I leave

Every Jew
Comes to this world
That’s full like a vineyard
It’s hard not to grab
All the grapes
That grow from the earth

But nothing we feel
Is for real
And in the end
Only one thing is sure
The Torah we learn
The Mitzvos we earn
That’s really
All that has worth

Vineyard oh vineyard
How lovely you looked
How lovely your fruits and your vines
From each of your branches I don’t have to eat
On Torah and Mitzvos I’ll dine
